LABOUR BUS SURVEY: NEED FOR BETTER EVENING AND SUNDAY SERVICES FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS

Today Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Norwich North, Alice Macdonald has published initial results from her survey on bus services across Norwich North.

The survey which has already received over 180 responses underlined the need for improvements to the bus system particularly the reliability and provision of routes.

Survey results showed that:

  • 46% of respondents were put off using the bus because it is not reliable enough.
  • Two thirds found the bus service less than satisfactory.
  • Nearly half  (48%) of respondents said the last time they took a bus it was over 10 minutes late.

When asked how bus services could be improved, the primary asks were for more and additional services and better reliability.

Commenting on the survey results Alice said: ‘Thanks to everyone who took this survey. The findings underline the need for urgent improvements to the current bus system.

Under the Conservatives broken bus system, local people are losing out. Labour would change that giving communities control back over local bus services.’

Alice has already met with bus providers First and Konectbus and will be sharing the full results of the survey with them as well as with the Conservative run County Council.

One specific ask that has been raised is for late evening and Sunday bus services in the Thorpe St Andrew North West area of the constituency on the 24 bus route.

Commenting on the results, Thorpe St Andrew Town Councillor and candidate for the upcoming district by-election, Carol Ferris said:

‘ Many people have told us that the bus services they need in Thorpe St Andrew just aren’t available. We’ll be calling on local bus companies and the county council to listen to residents here and provide Sunday and late evening services on the 24 bus route’
