My May Newsletter

An update for constituents of Norwich North on my work recently as your voice in Parliament and in the constituency.

NEWS FLASH

We saved the Walk-In Centre! Thousands of people raised their voice to save the walk-in centre – thank you to everyone who took part and joined our campaign. Read more about it HERE.

In the constituency…

Over the last month, I have been working on issues important to you around the constituency. Some of the highlights include:

  • Hosting a SEND Forum, listening to parents, carers, and teachers’ experiences of the SEND system and gathering feedback on how to improve it. There will be more opportunities to contribute, and the findings will be compiled into a report, keep a look out for how to get involved.
  • Commemorated VE Day, visiting care home residents and staff to join in with their VE Day activities, and attended a number of VE Day events around the constituency.
  • Met with constituents at my most recent coffee morning and surgery, listening to concerns about the local area, and providing support.

Casework Breakdown

In May, my office received 642 pieces of new casework and engaged in helping everyone who has been in touch – closing 1,450 cases from previous months.

The highest portions of casework this month were about health services and medicine; crime, civil law, justice and rights; as well as international affairs.

Please remember you can get in touch with me to raise any concerns by emailing alice.macdonald.mp@parliament.uk, or calling 01603 733182

In Parliament…

I have spent a lot of my time in Parliament this month, representing Norwich North on a range of important issues, including:

  • Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill: The debate on the Terminally Ill Adults Bill took place on May 16th, where I voted on two amendments to the bill. I have written an update sharing my thoughts and reasoning on the way I voted. You can read this HERE.
  • Dentistry: I met with Education Minister Jacqui Smith to speak about the importance of a dental school at UEA.
  • Parking regulations: I raised the case of Janice and other constituents in the Parking Regulations debate, and backed calls for a statutory Code of Practice to make parking fairer, with clear, universal standards. You can watch that HERE.
  • Fertility: I attended the LGBTQIA+ Fertility Justice Campaign Drop-In in Parliament, supporting their campaign.

Many constituents have contacted me about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and I want to reassure you that I am urging action on this issue. I have provided an update on the work that the UK Government is doing and the steps I have been taking as your MP to press for action. You can read my full statement HERE.
