My July Newsletter

My July Newsletter

An update for constituents of Norwich North on my work recently as your voice in Parliament and in the constituency over the month of July.

NEWS FLASH

I know that speeding and ASB on and around Britannia Road have been a longstanding issue. With local councillors I’ve been urging the County Council and City Council to act. I recently surveyed residents on what action they wanted to see.

Traffic counters have now been installed, and more work has been commissioned. Lots more to do but this is welcome progress and I will keep the pressure on to resolve this problem.

My Summer Listening Survey

It’s the summer and I’ve just launched my summer listening survey! Fill it out to help me stay up to date with your priorities both locally and nationally and tell me what you want me to be working on as your MP.

In the Constituency

Over the last month, I have been working on issues important to you around the constituency. Some of the highlights include:

  • Writing to the County Council asking about the severe flooding in Hellesdon, and what actions they will be taking to prevent this from happening again both short and long term.
  • Hosting a Housing Forum to discuss issues with constituents, as well as meeting with councillors about the lack of road adoptions at the new White House Farm estate, and playgrounds that haven’t been built at other new developments.
  • Visiting a number of organisations in our local area, including the Hellesdon Ambulance Station, Sprowston Fire Station, and the Norwich Combined Courts.

Casework

I recently shared my 2nd quarter casework statistics, and from 1st April-30th June, my office handled 2,382 cases for local people. As the next quarter begins, in the last month, we’ve handles another 1,355 cases.

Please remember to email alice.macdonald.mp@parliament.uk or call 01603 733182 if you require any support with issues you may be facing – my office is there to help!

In Parliament

Parliament is now in recess, but over the last month I have continued to represent Norwich North on a range of important issues, including:

  • Climate: I attended the Act Now, Change Forever Mass Lobby in Westminster, followed by an Interfaith Climate event with local faith leaders in Norwich, to discuss climate and nature crises, and actions we should be taking.
  • Norfolk Day: I used my last speech in Parliament before summer recess to mark Norfolk Day (27th July) and paid tribute to volunteers and community organisations, as well as our county’s history and beauty.
  • 10 Year Plan: I welcomed the Government’s 10 year health plan for England, which will get the NHS back on its feet and to make it fit for the future. Read the full plan HERE.

The ongoing situation in Gaza

Many constituents have been contacting me about the ongoing situation in Gaza. We need a ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and Hamas to release all the hostages. I have shared a full update on my website on the actions the government has taken and what I’ve been doing as your MP. This included recently meeting with the Foreign Secretary to press for further action. Read it HERE.

Out and about in our community

I have a couple of upcoming events taking place around the constituency:

  • Meet Your MP – Sprowston, Tuesday 19th August, 5:30-7PM
  • Constituency Surgery – Mile Cross, Wednesday 20th August, 4-5:30PM

These are a great opportunity to come and share your thoughts, discuss issues in our local area, and ask for support and advice.

If you are interested in attending, email alice.macdonald.mp@parliament.uk or call the office on 01603733182 to register your interest. Please note that spaces are limited due to venue capacities and in order to provide the best support for each individual.
