My February Newsletter |
An update for all of the constituents of Norwich North on my work recently as your voice in Parliament and in the constituency. |
In the constituency… In the last few weeks, I have been busy in the constituency, working on issues important to you, including: An NHS Consultation – This month I held a consultation with local people as part of the biggest ever conversation on the future of our NHS. We were joined by people from across the community and discussed a range of topics from how to better provide care in the community to how we can use technology in the NHS which I have fed back to the Department for Health and Social Care. Britannia Road – I’ve been contacted recently by many constituents concerned about speeding and anti-social behaviour in Britannia Road. I met with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Sarah Taylor, to discuss this and visited the area with local councillors. I’ll be holding a meeting this week with local residents so get in touch if you would like to attend. Coffee Morning – This month I held my first ‘Coffee with Alice’ session for local people to come and share their thoughts about local and national issues at the Phoenix Centre in Mile Cross. It was a real success and I will announce details of my next coffee morning soon. Norwich Airport – I visited the hub of aviation and engineering expertise that is Norwich Airport this month. It was wonderful to talk to staff like Jack, who had worked his way up from an entry-level position to become an Air Traffic Controller. The airport is a real asset to Norwich and I look forward to working to help it grow and develop. Youth Roundtable – Opportunity for all is one of my key campaign goals and that’s why I held my first Youth Roundtable this month. I invited the council, support groups, charities and young people to discuss how to break down barriers to opportunity for young people in Norwich North. |

Casework Breakdown |
![]() |
In February, my office received 426 pieces of new casework and engaged in helping everyone who has been in touch – closing 460 cases from the months previous. The highest portions of casework this month were health services and our NHS, as well as international affairs and social security and pensions. |
In Parliament… |
I have been representing Norwich North in the House of Commons on a range of issues important to my constituents, including: Women’s Health – During a debate on Women’s Health, I raised issues surrounding the postcode lottery facing women looking for IVF treatment on the NHS, in addition to highlighting the need for a statutory right to paid leave to access fertility treatments like this. SEND provision for children – In a debate on SEND provision, I raised the unique issues for children in our area especially transport, confusing admissions processes and the problems with councils spending thousands on legal battles with parents. I also raised the need to repurpose Angel Road Junior School as a specialist SEND school. Youth Services – In a debate on the importance of youth services, I called for young people’s voices to be at the heart of shaping the National Youth Strategy and called for more investment. Devolution – It was great news to hear that Norfolk and Suffolk had been accepted into the government’s priority scheme for devolution, this is a once in a generation chance to remodel how our region works and make the most of our enormous creative and economic potential – I paid tribute to this in the House of Commons chamber this month. School Breakfast Clubs – This month I also welcomed the government’s announcement that two schools in Norwich North would become ‘early adopters’ of the new free school breakfast clubs programme. St. William’s Primary and Kinsale Infant School will offer breakfast clubs half an hour before the beginning of the day to make sure kids are well-fed and ready to learn. |
