My April Newsletter |
An update for constituents of Norwich North on my work recently as your voice in Parliament and in the constituency. |
In the constituency… Over the last month, I have been busy in the constituency, working on issues important to you, including: Tackling speeding and anti-social behaviour: I sent a survey to residents around Britannia Road to ask what measures they felt were necessary to solve the problem of speeding and ASB in the area. I’ll be pushing local authorities for action to solve this longstanding issue. Action on mobile cancer treatment: Last month I was made aware that Tesco were refusing permission for Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital mobile cancer treatment units to remain at their car parks. Following my communications with the hospital and Tesco, whilst we were unable to secure a return to Tesco, I am glad to say the community stepped up and a new home has been found at Sprowston Sports and Social Club. Supporting local businesses and organisations: I attended the opening of the Norwich City Amateur Boxing Club at its new location, gave a closing speech at the Read Easy Norfolk Readers’ Celebration and paid tribute to all of the amazing work of the organisation, and visited Saxon Air, who are working on their vision of sustainable aviation technologies, which would help bring jobs and investment to our area. Welcoming breakfast clubs: I welcomed the launch of the free breakfast clubs pilot, with several Norwich schools already benefiting from this new Labour government initiative. I appeared on BBC Radio Norfolk to talk about how it will benefit children and parents, listen to it HERE. |

In April, my office received 458 pieces of new casework and engaged in helping everyone who has been in touch – closing 498 cases from previous months. In Parliament… |
I have been representing Norwich North in Parliament on a range of issues important to my constituents, including: Dentistry: I continued to push for the opening of the dentistry school at UEA, drawing attention to the proposal in Parliament, you can watch that HERE. I also met with the Health Minister, Stephen Kinnock to discuss a timeline for the project. Animal Testing: Hundreds of my constituents signed the online petition to ban the use of dogs in scientific and regulatory procedures. I attended the petition debate, showing my support, and asked the Government to commit to a timeline for a ban on animal testing. You can watch that HERE. Infected blood scandal: I raised a constituent’s case in the House of Commons, asking the Minister to ensure compensation is delivered at pace and to fast-track older and more vulnerable people. You can watch that HERE. Sustainable homebuilding: It is important that house building is done sustainably. I asked the Minister what action is being taken to manage nutrient neutrality, which has had a big impact on Norfolk, so we can unlock the delivery of the homes we need. You can watch that HERE. Backed action to put fans back at the heart of the beautiful game: Football is a huge part of our community culture in Norwich. I voted FOR the Football Governance Bill at its second reading this month, and will continue to support this, putting fans back at the centre of the game. |
