My November Newsletter

News from your MP – November

It’s been another busy month! The government has shared its Budget, I’ve published my report on SEND in Norwich North, I’ve been speaking on fly-tipping, and focusing on road safety in the constituency.

Read all about it below!

The Budget

Last week, the Chancellor delivered Labour’s second budget. It has set the course for a fairer Britain, founded on a stronger, more resilient economy. Here are some of the measures announced.

Delivering for businesses with permanently lower business rates for 750,000+ retail, hospitality and leisure properties.

Scrapping the two child benefit cap. This will lift 450,000 children out of poverty- including nearly 4000 in Norwich.

Tackling the Cost of Living: cutting £150 off the average energy bill from April and freezing prescription charges and rail fares.

Delivering 250 new Neighbourhood Health Centres as part of our mission to fix the NHS.

Investing in young people: increasing the minimum wage for 18-20 year olds and providing free apprenticeship training for under 25s in SMEs.

SEND in Norwich North

Since becoming your MP, SEND has been one of my top priorities. Earlier this month, I publish my report on SEND in Norwich North, informed and led by your stories and experiences.

It’s clear that the SEND system urgently needs fixing. The report sets out positive changes we can make to improve the situation. I have shared this report with the County Council and have already met with the Minister responsible for SEND to raise local concerns and share perspectives.

Road Safety Week

I was pleased to support Jenny Riddell-Carpenter, Suffolk Coastal MP’s call for safer roads around schools during road safety week. During this week, I also launched my petition to make the roads of White House Farm in Sprowston safer for school children and the local community. Sign the petition below to urge Norfolk County Council to adopt the roads as a matter of urgency, and make them safer for all!

Fly Tipping

I attended a community walk-about in Mile Cross this month with Cllr Chrissie Rumsby and Rebecca from the Mile Cross Litterbusters to discuss issues with flytipping and graffiti in the area.

I thanked the Mile Cross Litterbusters in Parliament for their great effort to keep the streets tidy for the local community, also asking the Policing Minister what action is being taken to crack down on fly tipping – watch it HERE.

More In Parliament

In case you missed it, at the beginning of the month I presented my Fertility (Right to Time Off) 10 minute rule bill in Parliament. Watch my video on why it’s important HERE.

I also attended the RNIB event on vision rehabilitation, which helps blind and partially sighted people to live independently. Here I met with local constituent Rob Sears who spoke about his own lived experience.

Ahead of the budget, I accompanied Saxon Air to a visit to No. 11 to meet the Chancellor and showcase a fantastic local business. I am glad Alex had the opportunity to share his thoughts directly with the Chancellor ahead of the Budget.

Out and About

In November I visited a number of school and education providers, including Hall School, and Thorpe St Andrew School as part of UK Parliament Week, where I had the chance to speak with students and answer many of their questions.

I also attended and spoke at the Nelsonspirit Crew Meeting – Norwich based leadership development and peer-mentoring group; visited HMP Norwich; met with N&N Festival Chief Executive; and the new Vice Chancellor at Norwich University of the Arts.

Here to Help

I held my November coffee morning in Drayton. Thank you to everyone who attended to share their thoughts with me, and a special thank you to The Old Mill for hosting us.
